The Pittsburgh Penguins need to shake up their top six.
Earlier this season, the Pittsburgh Penguins lost seven straight games for the first time in the Sidney Crosby and Evgeni Malkin era. It was a historic run, and not in a good way, but they are on the brink of matching that this weekend.
The Penguins suffered their sixth straight loss to the Vegas Golden Knights by a score of 5-2 and may match their previous low point of the season on Sunday against the Arizona Coyotes.
The primary area of concern for the Penguins is the top six, particularly their star players. Crosby scored a goal late in Thursday's game to end a four-game scoreless drought, one game shy of tying his longest stretch without a point since 2009.
Even more concerning is the play of Jake Guentzel. Known for his goal scoring touch, Guentzel has failed to score a goal at 5v5 since November 29th against the Carolina Hurricanes. He has scored four goals during that stretch, three on the power play and one on an empty net.
Once on pace for 45 goals, Guentzel will be lucky to reach 40 goals this season.
Keeping Guentzel next to Crosby seems like a failure to react at this point, but where do you move the Penguins stagnant sniper?
