Pittsburgh Penguins' captain Sidney Crosby continues his climb up the NHL's all-time scorers list.
Sidney Crosby is not one to celebrate or even mention personal accolades. The long-time Pittsburgh Penguins captain prefers to focus on wins and losses instead of personal goals and points. Whenever he decides to start reminiscing about personal successes, there will be plenty to discuss.
Last night, Crosby led the Penguins back from a 3-1 deficit against his childhood team, the Montreal Canadiens, in what became a special night for the 19-year NHL veteran. His father, Troy, was in attendance as part of the Penguins annual dad's trip, and Crosby put on a show in front of a near-capacity crowd at the Bell Centre.
His three-point performance (2G-1A) helped the Penguins to two points and their first consecutive wins since mid-November. It also moved him past former Penguin Paul Coffey and tied him with Mark Recchi for 13th on the NHL's all-time scoring list.
Crosby, along with linemate Jake Guentzel, are the heartbeat of this Penguins team. Since Thanksgiving, Crosby has scored nine points (5G-4A) and has been held off the scoresheet in only three of the last ten games. The Penguins are 4-2-1 when Crosby finds the scoresheet and 0-1-2 when he doesn't.
Guentzel has collected seven goals in those ten games and is one point behind Nathan Mackinnon for the league lead in even strength points (27). He has also scored power play goals in back-to-back games, both off feeds from Crosby below the goal line.
It was a memorable night for Crosby in Montreal that leaves him six points back from Joe Thornton for 12th all-time in scoring and 57 away from catching Phil Esposito at 10th all-time.
