Filip Zadina signed with the San Jose Sharks to revitalize his career; so far, he has done nothing but produce.
The San Jose Sharks took a chance on signing Filip Zadina, and so far it is working out.
Zadina was the No. 6 overall pick in 2018 by the Detroit Red Wings. He showed flashes of his high potential but could never stay in the lineup. Whether because of injury or inconsistent play, Detroit and Zadina terminated his contract.
In three games with San Jose, the Czech forward has two goals, including the team's first goal of the season. He also took on a penalty-killing role for head coach David Quinn.
So far this season, he has played with fellow countryman Tomas Hertl.
"I am really fortunate that I can play with with Tomas [Hertl]. I said before, he's one of the best centers in the league, and I'm really happy that I get the chance to play on the same line with him," Zadina said. "I'll do whatever it takes to stick with him as long as I can and just work my ass off every single shift."
Hertl himself has spoken highly of the winger.
"He wants to prove to everybody that's why he was drafted high," Hertl said. "He expects from himself a lot, and I'm here to help him."
Quinn understands his game and is preaching that Zadina needs to balance aggression and patience in his game.
"He's a hard player. He skates fast. He wants to be thorough. Sometimes, slowing down is the right thing to do. Have a little bit more patience, a little bit more poise," Quinn said. "He is very hard on himself. It's been a tough go for him, so we all have to be patient in letting him play through some of his frustrations."
