Justin Bailey scored his first goal as a member of the San Jose Sharks last night, his first goal in the NHL in over five years.
"It's definitely been a minute," Bailey said postgame. "Like I said before, it's been a couple of surgeries, COVID, and stuff like that. It's obviously been a while, but there was a lot of raw emotion on that celebration there."
His last goal in the NHL came on Mar. 10, 2018, as a member of the Buffalo Sabres.
Bailey has entered the Sharks lineup and provided a lot of speed, physicality, and work ethic. He is the team's biggest forward. He is also arguably the team's fastest player.
Bailey has dealt with multiple injuries throughout his career, causing him to miss significant time.
Sharks head coach David Quinn has been impressed with Bailey. Quinn has repeatedly said that the Sharks were impressed with his training camp. He was initially brought in on a PTO and has worked his way to an NHL contract.
"He's been very good since he's been up," Quinn said postgame. "He's added an awful lot to our team. His length. His speed and determination. It was a great play by Hoffman finding him in that high slot."
Bailey has five points in eight games with San Jose and has made a significant impact quickly.
