The San Jose Sharks will get Barclay Goodrow back in the lineup against the Carolina Hurricanes but will be without a top rookie forward.

When the San Jose Sharks visit the Carolina Hurricanes tonight, they will be without rookie Will Smith. This morning, Smith was placed on injured reserve to open a roster spot for Barclay Goodrow.
Smith's IR stint is retroactive to Dec. 6, ruling him out for tonight and the final game of the road trip against the St. Louis Blues on Dec. 12.
Smith last played on Dec. 5, and the team isn't clear about when he picked up an upper-body injury, but they are playing it safe by keeping him out for a few games. In 24 games, Smith has five goals and six assists.
Goodrow hasn't played since Nov. 27 against the Ottawa Senators when he took a high hit in the first period and eventually left the game. Sharks head coach Ryan Warsofsky wasn't happy with the hit that was only ruled for two minutes.
Per Sheng Peng, Goodrow skated on the third line in the morning skate with Alexander Wennberg and Luke Kunin.
