According to NBC Bay Area, a former San Jose Junior Sharks coach was arrested on Friday.
An earlier version of this story misstated what the arrests were for. NBC Bay Area has since updated its story as well. There has been no indication about what the coach was arrested for.
Although the coach's identity was not released, Sharks Sports & Entertainment said that the coach has not been with the company since May of this year and was unaware of any allegations.
Sharks Sports & Entertainment said that all of the coaches in the youth program are pre-screened and undergo criminal background checks.
Sharks Sports & Entertainment released this statement:
"Earlier today, we were made aware that a former Jr. Sharks youth hockey coach has been arrested by the San Jose Police Department. This individual has not coached in our program since May 2023 and none of these extremely serious allegations were brought forth to our organization while he was involved with the program. All of the coaches in our youth programs are pre-screened and SafeSport Certified as required by the governing body USA Hockey, and undergo a criminal background check. The safety and well-being of all of our youth participants and their families is our top priority and we intend to cooperate fully and completely with any investigation into this matter."
The Sharks are the last team in the NHL to win a game and now have even more bad news.
Although there isn't more information, there will be updates as this story progresses.
