San Jose Sharks head coach David Quinn told the media that time is running out for Logan Couture to play in the first game.

San Jose Sharks captain Logan Couture hasn't been on the ice during training camp due to a lower-body injury.

David Quinn told the media today that his chances of suiting up for game one of the regular season are dropping.

"I mean, you never know," Quinn said. "I know we are a week in advance, but it's probably a long shot as we stand here today."

In terms of how many days on the ice Couture needs before he can get back in:

"I think what a much better barometer when he gets out there and sees how he feels, and then maybe we'll have an idea," Quinn said. "He's somebody that is going to push it as hard as he can to get out there."

Quinn says the best course of action is to trust the athlete. "He knows his body best" is the phrase that he used.

"He's not someone that's going to wait till he's 100% and feeling perfect. He doesn't feel like that's realistic in this sport at this level," Quinn explained. "He's someone we're probably going to have to tame a little bit in trying to get back out there and make sure he gets out there at the right time."

The San Jose Sharks open the season at home against the defending champion Vegas Golden Knights a week from today. Although Couture hasn't been officially ruled out, seeing him on the ice will be a long shot.
