Duclair Scores Twice; Sharks Beat Devils 6-3 For First Road Win

Anthony Duclair and Jacob MacDonald scored twice as the San Jose Sharks beat the New Jersey Devils 6-3 for their first road win.

Anthony Duclair and Jacob MacDonald scored twice as the San Jose Sharks beat the New Jersey Devils 6-3 for their first road win on Friday night.

This was MacDonald's first career multi-goal game. Duclair ended a seven-game pointless streak. This was Duclair's first multi-goal game since April 12, 2022. Mikael Granlund had a goal and two assists. William Eklund scored the empty net goal to ice it. Kaapo Kahkonen got the start and made 44 saves.

Simon Nemec made his NHL debut for the Devils and earned two assists. Dawson Mercer extended his point streak to four games with his goal. Jack Hughes also extended his points streak to four with the Devils' second goal. Akira Schmid made 12 saves.

Former Sharks forward Timo Meier returned to the Devils lineup after missing time with a lower-body injury. Fabian Zetterlund and Nikita Okhotiuk returned to the Prudential Center for the first time. Mackenzie Blackwood did not play but was welcomed on the big board.

The Sharks were outshot 48-18 but capitalized on turnovers and high-quality scoring chances. 

Luke Kunin did not play for the Sharks due to an upper-body injury. 

FIRST PERIOD:

2:10: Ferraro finds MacDonald wide open on the backdoor to give the Sharks the lead. 1-0 Sharks.

13:21: Mercer bats the puck in after it hits the top of the net. Nemec gets his first NHL point. 1-1.

The Sharks played a decent first period. Their forecheck was strong to start. Matt Benning took a penalty that led to the Devils' first goal. The Devils have the No. 1 powerplay in the NHL coming in tonight. 

SECOND PERIOD:

2:51: MacDonald deflects in his second goal of the night. 2-1 Sharks. 

9:47: Duclair powers home a one-timer after a great Mikael Granlund saucer pass. 3-1 Sharks.

The Sharks played a risky but good style of hockey in the second period. They capitalized on their chances and created a two-goal lead.

THIRD PERIOD: 

2:56: Jack Hughes flies down the right wing and beats Kahkonen over the blocker. 3-2 Sharks.

5:07: Duclair goes backhand to forehand to score his second of the game. 4-2 Sharks.

12:58: Palat gets one back for the Devils. 4-3 Sharks.

13:38: Granlund cleans up the trash and gives the Sharks their two-goal lead right back. 5-3 Sharks.
