Eklund Scores Rocket Of a Goal; Canadiens Beat Sharks 3-2 in Shootout
Cole Caufield scored his sixth of the season as the Montreal Canadiens beat the San Jose Sharks 3-2 on Friday afternoon.
William Eklund had a goal and an assist for San Jose. Mike Hoffman celebrated his 34th birthday by scoring his fifth goal in the last five games. Tomas Hertl also had two assists. Mackenzie Blackwood made 22 saves.
Johnathan Kovacevic scored his third goal of the season for the Habs. Cayden Primeau made 31 saves in just his fourth game this season.
The Sharks started slowly, but a powerplay late in the first period helped generate momentum.
Filip Zadina left the game after the first period and did not return. Nico Sturm returned to the lineup, and his skating made an immediate impact. Matt Benning also returned to the lineup.
FIRST PERIOD:

San Jose had a strong finish to the period. They ended up outshooting the Canadiens 11-9. The Sharks struggled to generate much offense until Nico Sturm created a powerplay.
It was arguably the Sharks best powerplay of the season despite not scoring.
SECOND PERIOD:
5:06: Hoffman stays red-hot with another goal. Great pass by William Eklund from behind the net. 1-0 Sharks.
12:30: Eklund scores with a huge one-timer on the powerplay. 2-0 Sharks.
18:02: Kovacevic beats Blackwood up high over the blocker to cut the lead in half. 2-1 Sharks.
THIRD PERIOD:
3:26: Caufield scores with a terrific shot on a two-on-one. 2-2
