According to reports, there should be some clarity for the San Jose Sharks regarding the Erik Karlsson trade saga.
In the dead of summer and with great anticipation of the San Jose Sharks trading three-time Norris Trophy winner Erik Karlsson, it finally looks like we may get some clarity.
According to Elliotte Friedman on NHL Network, he is being told to keep a close eye on the situation over the weekend.
"I am very curious to see by the time that buyout window closes," Freidman said. "We have some clarity on Erik Karlsson."
The Pittsburgh Penguins have been the favorite to land EK65, and when forward Drew O'Connor filed for arbitration, the Pens received a second buyout window.
Since then, O'Connor has signed a deal, but Jake Guentzel will start the season injured after ankle surgery.
Guentzel carries a cap hit of $6,000,000 and will start the season on LTIR. Other names that could be moved, whether by trade or the second buyout, include Mikael Granlund and Jeff Petry.
Marcus Pettersson's name has also popped up as part of the return to the San Jose Sharks trade of Karlsson.
With the additions of Anthony Duclair, Filip Zadina, and MacKenzie Blackwood, it has seemed like GM Mike Grier had one job left to complete the Sharks' offseason—trade Erik Karlsson.
