Buffalo Sabres forward Jack Quinn will miss eight weeks after undergoing surgery on a lower-body injury he suffered against the San Jose Sharks on Saturday.
Quinn suffered the injury in the third period after he spun with the puck but was awkwardly shoved to the boards by Tomas Hertl.
Quinn has missed most of the season after he suffered a torn Achilles tendon on the same left leg, but Lance Lysowski reports that this injury isn't related. It was also confirmed that Quinn didn't suffer any damage to his knee.
Quinn had been playing in the Sabres' top-six forward group. He had 12 points (5 goals, 7 assists) in 17 games since returning to the lineup.
His eight-week timeline puts his return around late March at the earliest. Quinn is 22 and was taken eighth overall in the 2020 NHL Draft. With the Sabres on the outside of the playoffs looking in, they could decide to shut down the young winger's season instead of risking further injury.
Victor Olofsson, a possible trade target for teams looking to bolster offense at the trade deadline, could step in for the Sabres. They could also consider bringing up a top prospect from their AHL team in Isak Rosen or Jiri Kulich.
