They have tied the 1943-44 New York Rangers for the most consecutive losses to start an NHL season.
Rilley Smith had a four-point night, scoring two goals and two assists. Jake Guentzel, Vinnie Hinostroza, Matt Nieto, Evgeni Malkin, Bryan Rust, and Kris Letang scored for Pittsburgh. Tristen Jarry stopped 24 shots for his third win of the season.
Karlsson finished with two assists and was +5. Sidney Crosby played his 1,200th NHL game, finishing with one assist.
Anthony Duclair scored his second goal of the season after Tomas Hertl found him on the powerplay. Jacob MacDonald also scored for San Jose. Mackenzie Blackwood started and stopped 12 saves before getting pulled.
Magnus Chrona made his NHL debut and made 13 saves.
