We tell stories here about the NHL's 32nd franchise, the Seattle Kraken

Hi! My name is Glenn Dreyfuss. I've been fortunate to be in the delivery room for the birth of two NHL expansion teams from Washington: the Capitals of D.C. and the Seattle Kraken.

My first NHL game, in fact, matched the two 1974 expansion teams in their first season - the Capitals and K.C. Scouts. Washington's Ron Low backstopped a 3-0 whitewash of the Scouts at Capital Centre.

Me in 1980 outside Capital Centre, original home of the Washington Capitals.

A mere 47 years later, in September 2021, I found myself at Kraken Community Iceplex in Seattle, covering the first practice of the NHL's 32nd team. My credential read "The Fischler Report," as a correspondent for the legendary Hockey Maven, Stan Fischler.

The Kraken prepare to meet the media for the first time, September 23, 2021Seattle assistant coach Jay Leach leads a drill at Kraken Community Iceplex, the team's practice facility, on September 23, 2021.

Along the way, I've picked up some other hockey gigs. I produce and host a weekly YouTube show, "Hockey Time Machine."

I'm routinely punching above my weight class, with Hall of Fame guests ranging from Scotty Bowman to Bryan Trottier, TV titans from Brian McFarlane to Dick Irvin, the cast of "Slapshot," even Chris Hadfield, the lead astronaut aboard the International Space Station.

I also produce a podcast co-hosted by Rick Vaive, three time 50-goal scorer with the Toronto Maple Leafs. And I'm a member of SIHR, the Society for International Hockey Research.

My main perch the last two seasons has been high above the ice in the pressbox at Climate Pledge Arena.

I chronicled the first home game in Kraken history, the first plushie salmon tosses by players after home victories, the emergence of stalwarts like Jared McCann, Adam Larsson, and Matty Beniers, and the record-setting 7-0 Kraken road trip.

During that time, Stan moved "The Fischler Report" under the banner of The Hockey News. When Stan decided to pare back, THN inquired whether I'd like to helm their new Kraken team site.

    So here I am.

My goal here will be for visitors to have fun, and for me to get you closer to the players and management of the team you root for. We'll tell stories, and share observations you may not know about.

A couple of years ago, I wrote a book about the Capitals' inaugural 1974-75 season, titled "The Legends of Landover."

Yes, it is available on Amazon. Thanks for asking.

The 1974-75 expansion Caps won eight games, lost 67, and tied five, the worst record in the century-plus history of the NHL. So when people despaired over the Kraken winning "just" 27 games on their maiden voyage, I wasn't one of them.

Besides, things improved dramatically in Year Two, didn't they?

To borrow from the golf bumper sticker, a bad day at the rink is better than a good day anywhere else. If you agree and you follow the Kraken, I invite you to visit here often. Thanks!

I can't precisely put my finger on how, but becoming a Kraken fan has caused profound changes in some supporters. If you're one of them, this is your site.
