Ovechkin Nets Empty-Net Winner in Daccord's 100th NHL Game.
Seattle, WA- Joey Daccord marked a milestone in his career, celebrating his 100th NHL game Thursday night at Climate Pledge Arena, where he went head-to-head with the Metropolitan Division’s top team, the Washington Capitals. Daccord turned aside 30 of the 32 shots he faced, earning Third Star honors for his standout performance.
Fans in attendance were hoping to see the Kraken secure their third consecutive home win, but the Capitals took control early and never let up, dominating the game in a 3-0 shutout. Alex Ovechkin sealed the victory with an empty-net goal, his 20th of the season, moving him just 20 goals shy of tying Wayne Gretzky’s all-time record of 894.
The energy and physicality the Kraken showcased in their wins over the Sabres and Kings seemed to be missing in this matchup. There was a noticeable lack of protection around the net, leading to multiple breakaway opportunities for the Caps, which ultimately piled more pressure on Daccord throughout the game.
