The Toronto Maple Leafs made life difficult for the Seattle Kraken beating them 4-1.
The Kraken are now 1-1-0 on their current five-game road trip after Joseph Woll stopped 24 of the 25 shots the Kraken threw his way. Joey Daccord did all he could turning away 24 of the 27 shots he encountered.
The first period was scoreless between the Maple Leafs and Kraken until the Maple Leafs had an offensive zone faceoff. With just 4.7 seconds left, Auston Matthews elected to go forward on the draw finding a wide-open Mitch Marner who slid a touch pass to Matthew Knies, giving the Maple Leafs a 1-0 lead. A fairly back-and-forth period ended with the Maple Leafs outshooting the Kraken 14-12.
The Maple Leafs converted another pretty passing play with Morgan Rielly sending a cross-ice pass to William Nylander, who had a wide-open cage. Nylander scored his second of the game to make it 3-0 after John Tavares made a pass from his knees. The Kraken outshot the Maple Leafs 9-5 in the second period but two defensive miscues resulted in two Maple Leafs goals.
Eeli Tolvanen ruined Joseph Woll's shutout bid with a goal at 6-on-5. Tolvanen ripped a wrister off of the post in the second period but made no mistake with his second attempt.
After an extended shift of offensive zone pressure, Matthews found a loose puck and banked off of the boards from his own blue line into the Kraken's vacant net.
The Kraken went 0-3 on the power play and mustered just five shots on goal in the third period, a period in which they were trailing by three goals. The Kraken are back in action on Saturday when they take on another Ontario opponent, the Ottawa Senators
