Kraken Nine Points Out Of Wild Card Spot With 18 Games Left

After today, the Seattle Kraken Playoff Tracker is going back into the hockey attic.

We'll keep it handy, should the Kraken go on a miracle run and all the Western Conference contenders ahead of them have a group collapse.

Short of that, Thursday's game against the Washington Capitals and the other 17 games remaining on the schedule will be just that - games remaining on the schedule.

Tuesday's 5-4 overtime loss to Vegas, a game Seattle led 4-2 with eight minutes left, was like ripping off the playoff Band-Aid. Y'know, if the pain from the open wound was so great for the Kraken and their fans that it subsided only when they lost consciousness.

But it did serve to end the equally painful clinging to postseason dreams which almost certainly weren't going to be realized.

Mathematically, "almost certainly" is still correct phrasing. The NHL hasn't yet placed the "X" by the Kraken's name in the standings, indicating elimination from playoff contention.

For Kraken fans, by all means continue your pilgrimages to Climate Pledge Arena, following the games on TV and radio - and most important of all, reading about them online.

Seattle's hockey team is a close-knit group which won't stop playing hard, and hockey's about the best three hours of entertainment anywhere.

For your own well-being, though, avoid any more checking of the standings.
