Part 3 Of Our Seattle Hockey History Video Series
Editor's Note: I host a weekly YouTube show, Hockey Time Machine, most Thursdays at 4 pm Pacific time. Guests have included Hall of Famers Bryan Trottier, Yvan Cournoyer and Lanny McDonald.
All this week, we'll feature video excerpts from a show we did with authors and historians about Seattle's century-plus of hockey history.
By 1915, the Stanley Cup had been awarded for nearly a quarter-century, but never to an American team.
That year, the National Hockey Association and Pacific Coast Hockey Association agreed to have their champions meet annually to skate for the Cup.
Two years later, the Seattle Metropolitans captured the PCHA title, and the right to face the defending champion Montreal Canadiens of the NHA.
(Spoiler Alert: Seattle beat Montreal 3 games to 1 to capture the 1917 Stanley Cup.)
Author Kevin Ticen wrote a book about the Metropolitans, "When It Mattered Most." Kevin discusses their championship season, and what it a big deal that was for the sports fans of Seattle, in the clip below.
