Seattle Kraken goaltender Philipp Grubauer will represent Germany at the 2025 IIHF Men's World Championship.

The 33-year-old has represented Germany at the World Championships five times, and this year's event will mark the sixth time he's participated. Due to Germany's young but developing status in hockey, Grubauer has been unable to collect any medals.

Grubauer has played 18 games at the World Championships, posting a 7-8-0 record, a .912 SV% and a 2.64 GAA. He'll be hoping to regain some confidence in this tournament, as it was evident that he was lacking it this season with the Kraken.

Grubauer's Kraken career has been underwhelming, to put it lightly. After completing his fourth season with the team, he recorded the worst save percentage of his career by a healthy margin. His save percentage had risen by each passing season, improving to .899 during the 2023-24 campaign, but this season it plummeted to an all-time low.

In 26 games, the Rosenheim, GER., native posted a .875 SV%, earning a demotion to the Coachella Valley Firebirds. In the AHL, his struggles continued, as he could only muster a .893 SV% in seven games.

With two years remaining on his $5.9M cap hit, the Kraken need Grubauer to find his game and, at the very least, serve as a reliable backup goaltender for Joey Daccord.

Grubauer is now the eighth Kraken player to represent their country in Stockholm, Sweden, for the World Championship.
