As the 2025 IIHF Men’s World Championship approaches, excitement is building for Team USA’s run at gold. The tournament, co-hosted by Denmark and Sweden, is set to begin on May 9th—and two Seattle Kraken standouts will be suiting up for the Stars and Stripes.
Returning to the international stage is center Matty Beniers, who brings valuable experience and past success. A native of Massachusetts, Beniers helped Team USA capture bronze at the 2021 Men’s World Championship and also earned gold at the 2021 IIHF World Junior Championship. Known for his high hockey IQ and two-way play, Beniers will be a crucial piece of the American offense.

Joining him is fellow New Englander Joey Daccord, who will be making his debut at the Men’s World Championship. The Massachusetts-born goaltender is coming off a breakout season with the Kraken, where he finished among the NHL’s top 10 in goaltending stats. In the 2024–25 season, Daccord appeared in 57 games, recording 27 wins—including two shutouts—while posting a 2.75 goals-against average and a .906 save percentage. Now entering his fifth season with Seattle, his strong performance has earned him his first call-up to Team USA, giving him the chance to showcase his skills on the international stage.
Daccord joins a solid goaltending group that includes Jeremy Swayman of the Boston Bruins and Hampton Slukynsky, a rising prospect in the Los Angeles Kings system.

Up front, Beniers will be flanked by a talented group of forwards including Tage Thompson (Buffalo), Logan Cooley and Clayton Keller (Utah), Cutter Gauthier (Anaheim), Drew O’Connor and Connor Garland (Vancouver), and Frank Nazar III (Chicago).
Behind the bench, Ryan Warsofsky, head coach of the San Jose Sharks, will lead Team USA into battle as they aim to improve on their 2021 bronze medal finish and contend for gold in 2025.
