The Coachella Valley Firebirds have signed rookie defenseman Charlie Wright and have re-signed defenseman Ryan Jones.
Wright is a 20-year-old left-handed defenseman who's spent the last five seasons in the WHL with the Saskatoon Blades. He's played 256 games, scoring 15 goals and 103 points. Listed at 6'1, 179 lbs, Wright not only has a lot to develop in his game at still a young age but can fill out his frame and add another element.
He's already a strong skater who defends the rush very well and isn't afraid to join the rush when his team is in possession. Adding weight will allow him to be more physical and become a better all-around defender.
Wright served as the assistant captain for the Blades since the 2022-23 season and was dynamite in the team's playoff run last year. He notched five goals and 14 points in 16 games.
Jones is a 28-year-old left-handed defenseman with size and weight. Listed at 6'2, 214 lbs, Jones has the frame to be a physical force on the ice.
The Crown Point, Indiana native only registered five games with the Firebirds last year but was a mainstay in the Kansas City Mavericks lineup. He played 53 regular season games, scoring four goals and 25 points. He then recorded one goal and seven points in 20 playoff games.
The Seattle Kraken franchise has done an excellent job of retaining and adding players who have and can help their AHL and ECHL affiliates get back to the finals as they did in the 2023-24 campaign.
