Seattle Kraken goaltender Joey Daccord has entered the race to make Team Canada's 4 Nation's Face-Off roster.
Daccord has emerged as the Kraken's undisputed No.1 goaltender. He played in 50 games last year and has played 13 of the team's first 20 games. Not only has he shown he's able to carry the heavy workload, but he's shown he can be among the league's best while doing so. Daccord is tied with Winnipeg Jets goaltender Connor Hellebuyck for the fifth-best save percentage (.923) and is ninth in goals against average (2.31).
The 28-year-old was born in Boston, MA but isn't subjected to playing only for Team USA. Daccord's father Brian, was born in Montreal, which gives Daccord dual citizenship. His mother was born in Switzerland, which means he could also represent Switzerland at international events.
In an article written by The Hockey News' Ken Campbell, he confirmed that Team Canada management has been monitoring his availability.
"Team Canada assistant GM Jim Nill confirmed to The Hockey News that Daccord is definitely being considered for the team."
Daccord hasn't been placed on many roster projections due to the fact that not many people know he is eligible to play for Canada. With Canada's uncertainty in goal, Daccord's consistency and recent performance could not only land him a roster spot, but a starting job.
Many have predicted that St. Louis Blues' Jordan Binnington and Vegas Golden Knights' Adin Hill will be two of the three named to the roster with the third goalie being different each time.
If Daccord continues to play at this level, he'll not only help the Kraken continue to win games but will likely earn himself a roster spot on Team Canada. His chances of making Team USA are slim due to the depth they have in between the pipes but his chances with Canada are the best they may ever be.
