The Seattle Kraken will try to start a new winning streak Tuesday at Madison Square Garden, facing the Metro Division-leading New York Rangers.
Monday, the Kraken's bid for a 10th straight victory fell short in Pittsburgh, 3-0.
Part of the reason was the absence of Seattle's top-pair defenders. Vince Dunn was scratched from the lineup; partner Adam Larsson was pulled in the 1st period with what coach Dave Hakstol described as an "illness," not an injury.
Matty Beniers, also scratched Monday after being boarded by Columbus' Cole Sillinger on Saturday, has been placed on injured reserve. At a minimum, Beniers will miss the final two games of the Kraken road trip, tonight in New York and Thursday in Edmonton. Andre Burakovsky remains out as well.
Since both spare forwards, Kailer Yamamoto and Devin Shore, have now slotted into the lineup, forward John Hayden has been recalled from AHL Coachella Valley. Depending on whether Dunn and Larsson miss more time, extra reinforcements from the Firebirds may be needed.
More on how the depleted lineup affected the team's performance in today's Kraken Reaction postgame video.
