Denver - The Colorado Avalanche have announced the hiring of Dave Hakstol as an assistant coach, who will serve under head coach, Jared Bender. This is Hakstol's first coaching job since being let go by the Seattle Kraken after the 2023-24 season.

In three seasons with the Kraken, Hakstol amassed a 107-139 record in 246 regular season games. In the Kraken's lone playoff season in 2022-23, Hakstol coached the team to a 7-7 record in 14 playoff games, ultimately losing to the Dallas Stars in the Western Conference Semi-Finals in seven games. In the same playoffs, the Kraken won their first ever playoff series against the Avalanche who were defending Stanley Cup Champions at the time.

Prior to leading the Kraken, Hakstol coached the Philadelphia Flyers for 4 seasons. Before his NHL tenure, he was the head coach of the NCAA's North Dakota Fighting Hawks (previously Fighting Sioux) for eleven seasons, making it to the Frozen Four in six of those seasons, and winning the National Championship in 2011.
