Three Of Last Four Kraken Game Have Gone To Overtime

The Calgary Flames made a return trip to the rejuvenation center for under-performing franchises - also known as Climate Pledge Arena - hoping to replicate their 6-3 victory over the Seattle Kraken Nov. 4.

Despite holding a lead for more than 25 minutes after Joey Daccord replaced Phillip Grubauer in the Seattle goal, the Kraken gave up a late tying goal and the decider in overtime, for a 4-3 defeat.

It's the 10th time already this season that Seattle has ended up losing a game in which they held a lead.

1st Period

Calgary fills the Seattle net twice in the first 2:04. Fortunately for the home team, only one of the goals counted.

A dominating opening shift by the Flames ends with an Elias Lindholm bullet eluding Kraken goalie Philipp Grubauer. 1-0 visitors at 1:16.

Seconds later, bad coverage allows Martin Pospisil clear sailing to the Seattle net. Grubauer makes the save; the rebound deflects off Pospisil and into the net. However, the goal is waved off because the Flames' center collided with the Kraken goaltender.

First sign of Kraken life: Jaden Schwartz flattens Nick DeSimone. The next collision: Calgary's Nikita Zadorev accidentally knocks referee Chris Rooney on his wallet.

"Clean" describes Alex Wennberg's faceoff win, and Vince Dunn's 50-footer sailing past Calgary goalie Dan Vladar to tie the game 1-1 at 8:42.

Pierre-Edouard Bellemare can't help Seattle kill its first penalty, because he's the one in the box. But not for long; nine seconds later, Jonathan Huberdeau restores the Calgary lead 2-1 on the PP at 11:40..

2nd Period

Lingering effects from the Pospisil collision? Lingering effects of missing two stoppable shots? Either way, Grubauer is done, replaced by Joey Daccord to start the period.

As a Calgary penalty is ending, Kailer Yamamoto feeds Matty Beniers between the hashes. Beniers, bidding for his third goal in three games, kicks the puck to his stick, but gets stoned by Vladar.

When play resumes, two Kraken goals 2:04 apart dribble in to give Seattle its first lead. First, Jordan Eberle's third of the season ties the game at 8:21. Eberle's deft stickhanding in traffic made the shot possible.

At 10:25, Jared McCann, standing in front, gets enough of Adam Larsson's drive to break his stick - and redirect the puck past Vladar. Check out McCann banging his stick on the ice, calling for the shot from the point.

Tye Kartye and Brandon Tanev power moves create late chances to add to the Seattle lead, but Vladar has the answer both times.

Referees avenge Zadorev's first period bump by calling him for two middle-period penalties (not really). While Seattle doesn't score on the PP, they outshoot Calgary in the period, 17-6, 27-13 through 40 minutes.

3rd Period

Down to the last seven minutes, Joey Daccord was making all the saves required of him, as Calgary pressed for the equalizer.

An eventful shift for Yanni Gourde - two scoring chances - ended with a cross-checking penalty at 13:40.

As Gourde's penalty expired, Yegor Sharangovich fired a laser from the right circled. Daccord snapped it out of the air like picking a peach off a tree.

Calgary tied the game 3-3 at 13:53, 13 seconds after Gourde exited the box. Noah Hanafin's left point wrister was knocked down by Andrew Mangiapane. With inside position on Kraken d-man Vince Dunn, Mangiapane located the puck which had dropped in the crease, nudging it past Daccord.

Overtime

Calgary outshot Seattle 16-3 in the 3rd period, as the Kraken once again surrendered a 3rd period lead.

Joey Daccord made the first game-saver, robbing Rasmus Andersson. Vladar made a fine glove save on Vince Dunn.

Calgary's notched the OT winner, Andersson corralling the rebound of his wraparound and firing it home at 3:28 of the extra session. Kraken lose, 4-3.
