Keith Stevenson’s specialty jersey design continues the Kraken's partnership with Indigenous communities.

The Seattle Kraken have revealed a sneak peak into this season’s specialty jerseys designs and the artists behind the artwork for theme nights.

On December 10th, the Kraken will celebrate Indigenous Peoples' Night with Keith Stevenson, an artist and member of the Muckleshoot Indian Tribe. A renowned woodworker, Stevenson’s pieces are featured in galleries throughout Seattle. In 2021, the Seattle Seahawks collaborated with him and the Muckleshoot Tribe on the team’s Indigenous Peoples Day t-shirt design. His designs, inspired by textile patterns from the Coast Salish territory, reflect the Tribe’s Great Seal and honor the broader indigenous communities in the Pacific Northwest. Stevenson is also known for his dedication to preserving cultural knowledge and protecting the Tribe's intellectual and spiritual property rights.

The Muckleshoot Tribe's Great Seal features an image of Tahoma, also known as Mount Rainier, the "mother of all waters." The seal includes other elements that symbolize the tribe's connection to the land and waters: a carved face from western red cedar representing the ancestors who fought to protect the tribe's land; an elk head; traditional details in Muckleshoot representations of Mount Rainier; paired salmon symbolizing the tribe's traditional way of life and the Green and White Rivers; and the Sacred Hoop, which represents infinity, balance, strength, and equality, encircling all other elements.

The Seattle Kraken and the Muckleshoot Tribe have built a special partnership since October 2019, when leaders from the Kraken, Oak View Group, and Muckleshoot Indian Tribal Council blessed the ancestral lands of the Coast Salish people before breaking ground for Climate Pledge Arena. Fans at any Kraken home game will see a land acknowledgment before the national anthems. The Kraken strengthened their commitment to honoring the Muckleshoot Indian Tribe with a multi-year partnership and the first-ever jersey patch, making the Tribe the first Indian Tribe to hold this honor in the NHL. Look closely on the patch and you will see the Great Seal represented in the design.

Fans will be able to pick up select Kraken merchandise with Stevenson's design in the team stores on December 10th. Signed player worn jerseys will be auctioned off during the game with proceeds going to local charities through the One Roof Foundation.
