Injuries thin the forward ranks, prompting an urgent call-up for Nyman. Can the power forward reignite the Kraken offense?

Just before 11:00 am pacific time on March 18, the Kraken announced that they have recalled forward Jani Nyman from the Coachella Valley Firebirds on an emergency basis.  The 17th pick in the 2nd round of the 2022 NHL Entry Draft (49th overall), Nyman is known for his size and ability to drive to the net front.

Nyman played 24 games with the Kraken at the beginning of the season, accruing 4 goals and 2 assists in that time.  He was sent back to Seattle’s AHL affiliate Coachella Valley Firebirds at the end of December.  With the Firebirds, Nyman has racked up 18 goals and 9 assists in 29 games (an almost point-per-game average.)  In the 2024-25 season, Jani joined the Kraken for 12 games scoring 3 goals (including one in his NHL debut) and 3 assists.

With Eeli Tolvanen and Jaden Schwartz both out with injuries, the Kraken are down to 12 forwards.  In order to use an emergency recall, the team must fall below 12 healthy forwards.  It is likely there will be another injury or illness announcement coming on the heels of this news.

The Kraken will spend the rest of March on the road before returning to Climate Pledge Arena on April 2nd to face the Utah Mammoth.
