Kraken 4, Jets 3: Breaking Down Frenzied Final Moments

Make Sure To Inhale Deeply Before Reading

James Carey Lauder-USA TODAY Sports - Kraken 4, Jets 3: Breaking Down Frenzied Final MomentsJames Carey Lauder-USA TODAY Sports - Kraken 4, Jets 3: Breaking Down Frenzied Final Moments

For pure entertainment value, for heart-racing excitement, no Seattle Kraken game this year matches Tuesday's 4-3 victory over the Winnipeg Jets.

And we're only talking about the final two minutes.

Sure, the first 58+ minutes at Canada Life Centre contained more than its share of plays to make Kraken fans cheer, wince, and hold their breath in front of TVs and radios tuned to the game. (Game story here.)

The last minute, though, as Seattle frantically clung to a one goal lead against the Central Division leaders - well, that was an 11 out of 10 on the Bonkers Scale (y'know, if there were such a thing as the Bonkers scale).

    Let's review.

    Block Party

Cue the Stray Cats song, Kraken version.

We're gonna block till you pop
We're gonna block till you drop
    We're gonna block this town
    Block it inside out

1:52 Left: Kraken defenseman Adam Larsson (#6 in screengrab) gets in the way.
1:50 Left: Larsson gets in the way again.
1:49 Left: Center Yanni Gourde joins the block party.

:24 Left: Gourde takes a hooking penalty. Combined with Winnipeg having pulled its goalie, the home team will have a 6-on-4 manpower advantage.

Lose A Stick, Win A Game

:09 Left: Kraken goalie Joey Daccord loses his goal stick (red arrow), as Nikolaj Ehlers passes cross-ice to Jets defenseman Neal Pionk in the left wing circle.

:08 Left: Look how much net Pionk has to shoot at. Even the Grand Canyon would look at this and say, "That's a big opening."

:07 Left: Crucially, Pionk momentarily loses control of the puck.

He must reel it in before shooting, giving Daccord a fighting chance to untangle himself and slide post-to-post.

He can't possibly make it in time, can he?

:06 Left: In the 1950's Superman TV show, George Reeves would let bullets zing off his chest.

With no stick, Daccord offers his chest - and any other body part - in a last-ditch attempt to prevent the tying goal.

05 Left: Pionk's shot harmlessly goes "Pionk!" off SuperJoey's torso.

:02 Left: The Jets, still unwilling to concede, retrieve the rebound.

Josh Morrissey flings a final attempt toward the net. Daccord is back up, but still stick-less.

:01 Left: He won't need one.

Pierre-Edouard Bellemare, who won a faceoff and laid his back down on the puck to waste valuable seconds after Gourde's penalty, can't get in the way. Larsson makes his seventh and final block of the evening. If he hadn't, Jamie Oleksiak would have.

:00 Left: Boy, that clock took its sweet time getting down to zero. When the horn finally sounds, Daccord reveals his mild pleasure at the result.
