Throughout the season, the Seattle Kraken's front office has been keen on their mindset to be aggressive in their pursuit of upgrading the roster, and according to recent reports, that pursuit includes possibly using offer sheets.
Sportsnet's Elliotte Friedman shared on his podcast, 32 Thoughts, that the Kraken are looking to make a splash this offseason and could be looking at offer sheeting other teams' RFAs. The market for RFAs is quite large this offseason, and after the St. Louis Blues were successful last season in signing Dylan Holloway and Philip Broberg from the Edmonton Oilers, the expectation is that teams will attempt to be more aggressive this season.
The restricted free agent market is headlined by Evan Bouchard, Matthew Knies, JJ Peterka, Marco Rossi, Mason McTavish, Luke Hughes and Noah Dobson. Although they could all be offer-sheeted, due to the price to sign them and the high possibility of their team matching any offer, the expectation is that Bouchard, Knies, Hughes and Dobson aren't a threat to be offer-sheeted.
Rossi, Peterka and McTavish are all among the top contenders to not only be targeted by other teams but also possibly agree to a contract.
Of the three, Peterka makes the most sense for the Kraken to pursue. He is an ultra-talented winger, coming off a season where he scored 27 goals and 68 points in 77 games. He is a lethal shooter with strong play-making instincts to match, which would allow him to slot in nicely alongside Shane Wright or Matty Beniers. The Buffalo Sabres have remained adamant that they aren't actively shopping the 23-year-old but are taking calls.

Rossi and McTavish would be strong additions to the Kraken's roster, but with three centers already on the roster, the fit doesn't seem optimal. Rossi recorded 24 goals and 60 points in 82 games with the Minnesota Wild last season, showing he has what it takes to play in a top-six role. He and the Wild have been in disagreement over what his next contract should look like, which is why trade rumours and offer sheet speculation have occurred.
McTavish is a threat to sign an offer sheet, but most insiders believe the Anaheim Ducks would match most offers. His 22 goals and 52 points in 76 games were a career-high, but he also improved on the defensive side of the puck. The Ducks are hoping to begin competing for a playoff spot as soon as this season, and McTavish will play a large role if they can work out a deal.
The compensation for an offer sheet differs depending on the dollar amount agreed upon. The draft picks that would be sent would be from the 2026 NHL draft and onwards.

The Kraken have their own RFA business to handle, by way of Kaapo Kakko, Ryker Evans and Tye Kartye, but President of Hockey Operations Ron Francis and General Manager Jason Botterill are quite confident that they will get a deal done with each of them very soon.
Like most moves, offer sheets come with a lot of risk, but the reward for signing a 23-year-old to a long-term contract can boast high rewards. If the Kraken are set on fast-forwarding their process, making a splash like this would do the job.
