Seattle Kraken defenseman Brandon Montour suffered an upper-body injury in their 3-2 comeback win over the Calgary Flames.

The 30-year-old played just 4:49 before exiting the game. He didn't take a single shift in the last five minutes of the first period and did not join the team for the start of the second.

Without Montour, each blue liner on the Kraken had to step up, and they did just that. Vince Dunn recorded 29:18 of ice time, Adam Larsson played in 26:37, and Jamie Oleksiak skated in 22:08.

Despite the absence of the 10-goal, 27-point scorer, the Kraken were able to mount a comeback and outplay the Flames in the third period. The Kraken outshot the Flames 12-7 in the third period, receiving goals from Shane Wright and Andre Burakovsky before Matty Beniers won the game in overtime.

The severity of Montour's injury has yet to be determined, but the 4 Nations Face-Off is coming at the best time possible for Montour and the Kraken. Ryker Evans and Jordan Eberle are working toward returning to action, and the break will give Montour time to recover.

The hill the Kraken need to climb to make the playoffs is already steep, but it could become insurmountable without Montour.
