Editor's Note: We're not trolling you with this screengrab. While a questionable culinary choice, it's for a good cause we explain at the end of this article.
The Seattle Kraken have recalled goalie Chris Driedger from the Coachella Valley Firebirds, in advance of Wednesday's home game against the San Jose Sharks.
A collision against Calgary caused Kraken goalie Phillip Grubauer to exit after one period Monday.Goalie Philipp Grubauer was shaken up early in the first period of Monday's 4-3 OT loss to the Calgary Flames. Two minutes into the game, Calgary's Martin Pospisil collided with Grubauer during a breakaway.
The goalie finished the period, before being replaced by Joey Daccord for the rest of the contest. Asked if Grubauer would be available tonight, Kraken coach Dave Hakstol said, "I don't expect him to be."
Goalie Chris Driedger, recalled to Seattle from AHL Coachella Valley.Daccord is expected to start tonight, backed up by Driedger.
Now fully recovered from a 2022 ACL injury, Driedger with the Firebirds this year has a 2.20 GAA, .915 save percentage, and a 6-4-0 record.
Wednesday morning's optional skate at Kraken Community Iceplex was part fashion show, with the official unveiling of Seattle's Winter Classic uniform... a reveal made unofficially by the NBA's Utah Jazz several days ago. (The Jazz played an exhibition game at Climate Pledge Arena Oct. 10 against the L.A. Clippers, and apparently left town with Winter Classic swag.)
From Kraken PR: "The jersey, designed in partnership with the NHL and Adidas, offers a distinctive twist on the Kraken kit, transforming it with historic barber pole striping that incorporates Kraken blues with a classic cream color, creating a uniquely vintage look."
Additional design elements:
Coach Hakstol's review: "They've got a cool-school vibe to them. All the feedback from all different ages has been awesome."
In our Monday Kraken prospect update, one of the players profiled was Carson Rehkopf.
You might say the winger nicknamed "The Razor" remained on a tear Tuesday. His OHL-leading Kitchener Rangers wiped out the Erie Otters, 10-3. Rehkopf padded his league-best goal (25) and point (44) totals with a goal and four assists in Kitchener's 8th straight win.
Now, about that screengrab above. Personally, I would have chosen one of the players for, let's say, a "Jared McCann-ed Food Drive." No matter. Buoy was enlisted. The details are in this post.
