Before the season, the Seattle Kraken could be forgiven for seeing their game against the Red Wings as one of the more easily winnable of a challenging early schedule.
As the Kraken begin a four game trip Tuesday night in Detroit, that certainly is no longer true, for two reasons.
First, with Seattle off to a 1-4-1 start, all sorts of offensive woes, and two forwards lost to long-term injuries (Brandon Tanev, Andre Burakovsky), no game at the moment can be considered easily winnable.
Second, the Wings are flying - five wins in six games to start the season.
When Tanev went down, it meant both Kailer Yamamoto and Tye Kartye would be getting regular playing time.
Devin Shore, seen here in pre-season, will likely make his Seattle Kraken debut tonight in Detroit. With Burakovsky now also out, spare forward Devin Shore likely won't be a spare forward any more. Should he earn a sweater against the Red Wings, it would make Seattle the fifth NHL team for which Shore has played.
The 6-foot-1, 206 lb. forward was a late 2nd round draft pick by the Dallas Stars in 2012. He's played 422 NHL games since debuting with Dallas in 2016.
In addition to the Stars (209 games), he's played parts of two seasons in Anaheim (73 games), six games with Columbus, and parts of the last three seasons in Edmonton (134 games).
Oct. 14: Devin Shore (94) with the AHL Coachella Valley Firebirds.Don't look for Shore to break the Kraken out of their scoring slump. The Edmonton Sun described his role with the Oilers as "bottom-six forward — to be responsible in his own end and look to chip in offensively when he can.
"It’s the team-first attitude that makes Shore a popular figure in the Oilers dressing room."
