Caroline Anne / The Hockey News - Kraken Make Roster Cuts; Place Six Players On Waivers And Reassign Three Others To The AHL

The Seattle Kraken have reassigned nine total players to the Coachella Valley Firebirds, placing six players on waivers and reassigning another three players on entry-level contracts.

Among the six players placed on waivers for the purpose of reassignment to Coachella Valley are Brandon Biro, Max McCormick, Ben Meyers, Gustav Olofsson, Mitchell Stephens and Ales Stezka.

The three players going directly to the Firebirds without risk of being claimed are Jacob Melanson, Eduard Sale and Ville Ottavainen. Sale being sent down doesn't guarantee that he will play for the Firebirds this season as he's still eligible to return to the OHL. If the organization believes he is ready for the AHL he can play with the Firebirds even though he is 19, he wasn't originally drafted from a CHL team.

Surviving the most recent wave of cuts are Ryan Winterton, John Hayden and Cale Fleury. All three players have been with the Kraken organization for multiple years and were key contributors to the Firebirds' run to the Calder Cup finals last year. With that being said, the Kraken roster size is still over the limit; by one, but is also not cap compliant. Unless a current Kraken player suffers an injury and lands on the LTIR, it's likely that all three players end up with the Firebirds.

Meyers, Biro, Melanson, Sale and Ottavainen all made it this far in camp because of their performance during the pre-season and training camp. They made effective players throughout their appearances and showed they will one day belong in the NHL. In Biro and Meyers' case, the Kraken will hope no team claims them off of waivers and they can have them on standby to call up in case of any injuries.
