Seattle Kraken first-round pick Chase Reid competed in the IIHF World Junior Summer Showcase from July 25 until August 1 as preparation for the 2027 IIHF World Junior Championships.
Players from Canada, Sweden, the United States, and Finland competed and practiced from July 25 until August 1 in Edmonton and Red Deer, Alberta.
The best under-20 prospects from the four countries participated in the summer showcase.
The United States had 47 players at the World Juniors Winter Showcase. Nine of the 47 players were selected in the first round of the NHL Draft, including 18-year-old defenseman Chase Reid.
Reid was selected with the seventha overall pick in the 2026 NHL Draft by the Seattle Kraken.
At the 2026 World Junior Classic, Reid led all United States defensemen with two goals. Team USA finished fifth. Adam Nightingale of Michigan State University will coach Team USA. Nightingale spoke with NHL.com ahead of the upcoming showcase.
"As coach, your No. 1 responsibility, I think, is to make it a team, unify it, and we've reached out to the kids and communicated that with them," Nightingale said. "I think the best thing we can do is make sure the guys know everything's earned and it starts with us having a good camp. I think that's one of the hardest things to do, and especially with the age of social media and your brand and all this stuff ... that's what makes hockey so much fun because it's a team sport.”
Nightingale announced that cuts will be made by the end of the showcase.
