Seattle Kraken first-round pick in the 2026 NHL Draft, Chase Reid, appeared at the World Junior Summer Showcase playing under his future coach, Adam Nightingale.
Nightingale coaches at Michigan State University, the same school that Reid has committed to for the 2026-27 season.
Reid was selected seventh overall in the draft by the Kraken after playing with the Ontario Hockey League’s Soo Greyhounds in the 2025-26 season. In 45 games, the defenseman recorded 48 points: 18 goals and 30 assists.
Last season, Reid also played for the USA U20 Team at the World Junior Championship. Reid recorded four points in five games, tallying two goals and two assists.
Nightingale shared his coaching approach heading into showcase week.
"As a coach, your No. 1 responsibility, I think, is to make it a team, unify it, and we've reached out to the kids and communicated that with them," Nightingale said to NHL.com. "I think the best thing we can do is make sure the guys know everything's earned and it starts with us having a good camp.”
Coach Nightingale shared that cuts will be made by the end of the week.
"Everyone's got to earn their spot, whether you're a returner, a new guy, played in the OHL (Ontario Hockey League), college, North America, it doesn't matter. We're going to take the best guys."
