While no one can elaborate on the reason, it appears to be medically related. Team doctor Karin Granberg confirmed the news, which was attributed to a Folkbladet article, which is behind a paywall, after Forsfjäll was absent from practice on Monday.

“I can confirm that, unfortunately,” said Granberg. “I look forward to him playing next season.”

The 20-year-old centre skated in 39 games this season, scoring a goal and nine points. He also participated in the World Juniors, playing for Team Sweden, where he recorded two goals and five points in seven games.

The Kraken drafted the Skellefteå, SWE native in the sixth round, 180th overall in the 2023 NHL Draft. Earlier in the season, Forsfjäll was praised by his head coach for his attentiveness to the defensive side of the game.

Skellefteå AIK and Forsfjäll won the SHL championship last season, although Forsfjäll was used more as a depth piece in minimal minutes.

During the regular season this year, Forsfjäll had seen an uptick in minutes, but his role remained as a bottom-six center.

Forsfjäll has a year remaining on his current contract and could make the leap to North American hockey following the 2025-26 campaign, joining the Coachella Valley Firebirds. Missing the playoffs is unfortunate for Forsfjäll, both for experience and development reasons.
