The Seattle Kraken and Adam Larsson have agreed to a four-year contract extension carrying a $5.25M AAV according to Elliotte Friedman.

The 31-year-old defenseman joined the Kraken in the expansion draft and has been a crucial part of their blue line ever since. The Kraken handed him a four-year extension worth $16M after selecting him in 2021.

Larsson is as consistent as they come in the NHL. He's missed just one game in his Kraken career and has scored 20 goals and 76 points. He's set career highs in goals, assists and points in a season during his tenure with the Kraken.

The veteran defenceman has become a leader both on and off the ice. On the ice, the coaches and his teammates know what they are going to get from him. He plays defensively responsible, puts his body on the line to block shots and efficiently moves the puck up the ice.

The contract extension will kick in following the 2024-25 season. The former fourth-overall pick in the 2011 draft will be 36 once this contract extension expires. His play should allow him to still play at a top level as he gets older as he isn't reliant on his speed. He plays positionally sound and reads the game at a high level.

Vince Dunn posted four cat emojis on X, formerly known as Twitter hinting at something involving Larsson and the Kraken. He clearly knew something as just over an hour later the reports came in about the Larsson news.

The Kraken now just have Will Borgen and Josh Mahura with expiring UFA contracts and Ryker Evans as an RFA at the end of the season. Tidy business by Ron Francis to retain a right-handed defenseman who plays a critical role for the franchise.
