The Seattle Kraken have reassigned Ville Ottavainen and John Hayden to the Coachella Valley Firebirds as they gear up for the playoffs.
The Firebirds have been to the Calder Cup finals in back-to-back seasons, and despite losing some key veterans in the previous offseason, they've positioned themselves to possibly go on another long run.
Ottavainen and Hayden were both in the lineup for the Kraken in their final game of the season, with Ottavainen recording an assist in his NHL debut. They'll both continue to be key contributors to the Firebirds, and their play will dictate how far they go in the playoffs.
Hayden played 20 games up in the NHL this year, scoring a goal and two points. With the Firebirds, the 30-year-old has scored 11 goals and 27 points in 43 games. His size and physicality bode well in the playoffs.
Ottavainen is also a big body and has accumulated AHL playoff experience, playing 18 games last season. This season, the 22-year-old, 6'5 defender has scored three goals and 15 points in 66 games, playing in more of a shutdown role.
The Firebirds have two games remaining on their regular season schedule before the playoffs commence.
