Seattle Kraken goaltender Philipp Grubauer has been named to Team Germany’s Olympic roster as one of the first six players.

Each Olympic team is naming their "Olympic Six," and Grubauer is the first Kraken player to be called to represent their country.

The 33-year-old is one of, if not the most experienced players on the roster, including both NHL experience and international experience. Playing for Germany at the World Championships, World Juniors, U-18s, and U-17s, Grubauer has accumulated 38 games at these events and will play at the Olympics for the first time in his career.

Named alongside Grubauer were Edmonton Oilers’ Leon Draisaitl, Ottawa Senators’ Tim Stutzle, Chicago Blackhawks’ Lukas Reichel, Florida Panthers’ Nico Sturm and Detroit Red Wings’ Moritz Seider. Surprisingly, Buffalo Sabres’ JJ Peterka was left off the roster, but early indications show it’s due to his contract dispute with the Sabres.

Germany is in what can be considered their "Golden Era." They have never been able to roster this many skilled players. Although winning gold in Italy will be very difficult, they could go on a run and fight for a medal if Grubauer can keep them in games when they need him to.
