The Seattle Kraken have signed goaltender Matt Murray to a one-year, $1-million contract.
The 31-year-old is a two-time Stanley Cup champion with the Pittsburgh Penguins, who has spent the previous three seasons with the Toronto Maple Leafs. His 2024-25 campaign was spent in the AHL with the Toronto Marlies, where he recorded a .934 SP and a 1.72 GAA in 21 games.
In his first season with the Maple Leafs, Murray served as the backup goaltender, playing in 26 games. Since then, he's transitioned into the third-string netminder and a veteran presence for the young goaltenders in the AHL.
His role with the Kraken will likely be the same, as the Kraken have confirmed they will not be buying out Philipp Grubauer, who will serve as the backup netminder to Joey Daccord. Murray will presumably serve the same role he did with the Maple Leafs, mentoring Nikke Kokko when he's with the Coachella Valley Firebirds and stepping up into the NHL if Daccord or Grubauer face any injuries.
Murray is the second UFA signing of the offseason, joining a list that includes Ryan Lindgren, who the Kraken signed to a four-year, $4.5-million contract earlier today.
