The Seattle Kraken will have the sixth-best odds (7.5%) of landing the first overall pick in the 2025 NHL Draft.

The Kraken finished in 27th place, going 35-41-6 and ending with 76 points. They concluded the season tied in points with the Philadelphia Flyers and the Boston Bruins, but the Kraken recorded 28 regulation wins, more than both the Flyers and Bruins.

If the Kraken don't move in the draft, it'll be their third-highest selection, trailing their picks of Matty Beniers at second overall and Shane Wright at fourth overall, and beating Berkly Catton at eighth overall and Eduard Sale at 20th.

The top pick will likely be either defenseman Matthew Schaefer or center Michael Misa. At the moment, they are the consensus first and second-overall picks, depending on the team's needs. If the Kraken were to land the first overall pick, they would likely favor Schaefer as their defensive prospect pool is significantly weaker than their forward pool. Although Misa would likely be the best prospect they've drafted if they did select him.

Schaefer is an incredible skater, possessing both a high top speed and phenomenal edges. He would instantly be the franchise defenseman and walk directly into the opening-day lineup.

If the Kraken remain at six, they could go in several directions. In The Hockey News' Tony Ferrari's most recent draft rankings, he had Swedish center Anton Frondell going at sixth overall. The 17-year-old is listed at 6'1, 196 lbs, owning a heavy shot and smart defensive instincts. His foot speed has been seen as a bit of an issue, but he's consistently shown that he can be effective in other ways.

Other players who are in or around that range are centers James Hagens, Roger McQueen, Jake O'Brien and Caleb Desnoyers, wingers Porter Martone and Viktor Eklund and defensemen Jackson Smith and Radim Mrtka.

It's another important draft for the Kraken, who are still in search of a superstar talent.
