Seattle Kraken goaltender Joey Daccord was receiving consideration for Team Canada's 4 Nations Face-Off roster but was ultimately left off.
Daccord was born in Boston, Massachusetts, but because Daccord's father, Brian, was born in Montreal, it gives him dual citizenship. It was confirmed that Team Canada was considering Daccord for one of the three goaltending spots, but the roster reveal proves they elected to go another route.
The 28-year-old's omission is surprising considering the season he is currently having. His numbers are nearly identical to the ones he recorded last year when he saw 50 games of action.
Jordan Binnington and Adin Hill have Stanley Cup-winning experience, which helps trump their slowish starts to the season. The decision to select Samuel Montembeault over Daccord is an interesting one. Besides experience playing with Canada at the World Championship, Daccord has posted better numbers in the past two seasons.
Daccord played at a level deserving of a roster spot but couldn't sway Team Canada's management and coaching staff enough to get his name on the roster. If one of Canada's goaltenders sustains an injury before the tournament, Daccord could be one of the goaltenders in contention to fill in.
