Seattle Kraken's winning streak ends at home with a 3-2 loss to the Colorado Avalanche.

The Seattle Kraken hosted the Colorado Avalanche Tuesday night at Climate Pledge Arena in what was the the only appearance in Seattle for the Avs.
Tuesday's game was game three of a five-game home stretch for Seattle and one of 16 games being played by 32 clubs for ESPN's Frozen Frenzy series. The Kraken entered the game on a three-day winning streak. Philip Grubauer started in net for the Kraken, while Justus Annunen started for the Avs. The match featured two Calder Cup Trophy winners for Rookie of the Year: the Kraken's Matty Beniers, awarded in 2023, and the Avs' Cale Makar, awarded in 2020. Vince Dunn was scratched from the starting lineup and has been placed on long-term injured reserve after sustaining an injury during the Kraken's game against the Flyers on the 17th.
Not much happened in the first until Grubauer's former club scored with a redirected wrist shot from left winger Joel Kiviranta with less than a minute left.
The Kraken struggled with shots on goal during the second period (5 to Colorado's 17) but managed to kill the Avs' first chance at a power play goal after Eeli Tolvanen was called for interference. The Avs currently have the second-best power play percentage.
Jared McCann scored his 100th goal as a Seattle Kraken to tie the game. He is the first Seattle skater to reach this milestone. McCann has scored three times in the past four games and has 10 points (4 goals, 6 assists) in 17 career games against the Avalanche.
But the celebration was not long lived as Colorado's Joel Kiviranta strikes again with his second goal of the night followed by one from Nathan McKinnon.
Seattle started the third period with its second interference call, this time on Jamie Oleksiak for a penalty against Mikko Rantanen. Thankfully, Seattle killed the penalty once again. The Kraken pulled Grubauer with 3:46 left in the period, and seconds later, Nathan McKinnon almost scored his second goal. Grubauer returned to the net as the goal was recalled for offsides.
Ryker Evans scored a late goal in the third period at 19:55 to cut Colorado's lead, but time expired, and the Avalanche won 3-2.
The homestand continues on Thursday as the Kraken host the only undefeated team in the NHL, the Winnipeg Jets. Puck drop is at 7 PM PST.
