Seattle, WA - The Professional Women’s Hockey League (PWHL) has officially added Seattle as its eighth franchise, unveiled during a press event at Climate Pledge Arena on Wednesday morning. This makes the arena the first in the U.S. to host two professional women’s sports teams, alongside the Seattle Storm.
Hosted by Kraken analyst Alison Lukan, the event featured PWHL leaders, city officials, and women’s sports advocates, including Executive VP Jayna Hefford and Seattle Sports Commission President Beth Knox. PWHL VP of Business Operations Amy Scheer promised, “You will fall in love with our game at first puck drop.”

Temporarily named PWHL Seattle, the team will debut with sea green and cream colors. A 30-game season begins in November 2025, with playoffs in May 2026. The Kraken Community Iceplex will serve as the team’s practice facility. Expansion draft rosters start forming in June, with the PWHL Entry Draft set for June 24 in Ottawa.
