The Seattle Thunderbirds were the first team in the WHL to host a teddy bear toss night this season.

Kent, WA - Braeden Cootes' early goal unleashed a flurry of stuffed animals as the Thunderbirds outlasted the Lethbridge Hurricanes 5-4 in a shootout on Teddy Bear Toss Night. After a scoreless overtime, Cootes and Martorana scored, while Scott Ratzlaff stopped two of Lethbridge’s three shooters to seal the win.

The Teddy Bear Toss began with the Kamloops Blazers in 1993. Since then, fans have been encouraged to bring stuffed toys to throw onto the ice after the home team’s first goal, with the donations going to hospitals and charities. The Hershey Bears hold a record of 74,599 stuffed toys in a single hockey game.

The Thunderbirds close out their three-game homestand Wednesday against the Wenatchee Wild at 7:05 p.m.

The Everett Silvertips host the Seattle Thunderbirds for their Teddy Bear Toss Night on Saturday, December 7th at Angel of the Winds Arena.
