Hockey Royalty: Jennifer Botterill Joins HHOF, Continuing Family’s Ice Legacy
TORONTO (June 24, 2025) — Hockey greatness runs deep in the Botterill family — and now it’s official. Jennifer Botterill, a three-time Olympic gold medalist and trailblazer in women’s hockey, has been named to the 2025 Hockey Hall of Fame class, announced today by Selection Committee Chair Ron Francis.

Botterill’s induction not only celebrates her individual accomplishments — including standout NCAA seasons at Harvard, MVP honors at the IIHF Women’s Worlds, and a decorated pro career — but also shines a light on a family steeped in hockey tradition.
Her brother, Jason Botterill, a former athlete, was recently named general manager of the Seattle Kraken. The Botterill siblings were raised in a competitive, hockey-centric household. Their father, Cal, worked with the Chicago Blackhawks as a performance coach, while their mother, Doreen McCannell-Botterill, a former Olympic speed skater, was inducted into the Manitoba Sports Hall of Fame — an honor Jennifer shared with her just months ago in November 2024.
“My heart is really full with this honour,” Jennifer said. “I appreciate all of the people who have helped me through my career.”- Jennifer Botterill
Botterill turned to broadcasting after retiring from professional hockey and is now a respected and influential sportscaster. Last season, while on assignment for Sportsnet, she took time to visit the Kraken’s John Forslund.
