December 21 was the shortest day of the year in the Northern Hemisphere, the one with the longest night. Each day since brings a little more light, a little less darkness.
The Seattle Kraken were just a bit ahead of the rest of us. They began emerging from their long darkness Dec. 12. A 4-0 shutout of the Florida Panthers broke Seattle's 8-game losing streak.
Since then, each day has seemed brighter. Despite a continuing rash of injuries, the team is unbeaten in regulation in its last six contests (4-0-2).
