Annual Winterhawks Training Camp Teams Named in Honor of NHL Alumni.

The Portland Winterhawks wrapped up its four-day training camp this weekend with Team Bjorkstrand winning the Neely Cup on Sunday. Due to ongoing construction at Veterans Memorial Coliseum sessions were held at neighboring Sherwood Ice Arena in Sherwood, Oregon.

Training camp is divided into four competitive teams named after Winterhawks Alumni such as the Kraken's Oliver Bjorkstrand, Chase De Leo, Joe Mahon, and Brett Ponich.

Bjorkstrand played with the Winterhawks from 2012 to 2015 and assisted Portland in winning the 2013 WHL Championship in his rookie season. He earned the most points in the league and and was named the WHL’s Player of the Year in 2015.

77 players aged 15 to 20 years participated in this year's training camp including: Kraken Prospect Tyson Jugnauth who played on Team Ponich (gray). Team Bjorkstrand won the 2024 Neely Cup championship  5-4 over Team Mahon.
