The Seattle Kraken have recalled Ryan Winterton from the Coachella Valley Firebirds.
The 21-year-old leads the Firebirds in goals (7) and points (15) in 16 games. He's been the driving force behind the Firebirds' offence and is a major factor in the team's recent success.
Despite Winterton's success in the AHL, it hasn't translated to the NHL quite yet but the building blocks have been there. He's yet to record a point in any of the 10 NHL games he's played in but has shown flashes of comfortability in the limited minutes he's played in.
Winterton has a great blend of size and skill but also quietly adds a bit of physicality and feistiness. He's not afraid to throw his weight around on the forecheck to lay hits and has already recorded 16 penalty minutes with the Firebirds.
As the Markham, ON native, gets older and more mature he'll better understand how to influence a game outside of goals and assists. His versatility to play on the wing or up the middle is important and if he can continue to improve his all-around game, he'll carve out an NHL-roll very soon.
