The Seattle Kraken have selected goaltender Kim Saarinen with the 88th pick in the 2024 NHL Entry Draft.

17 years old and 6'4, Saarinen spent time in the U-18 SM-saraja, U-20 SM-saraja and in Liiga, the top Finnish league. In the U-20 league, he posted a .917SV% and a 2.41GAA in 23 starts.

Saarinen will likely play more than two games with HPK in Liiga next season.

Eliteprospects describes him as "Saarinen brings a unique combination of skill and size to the table. He keeps excellent access to his edges and remains patient when the puck is passed around the zone, capable of making quick adjustments in either direction. He’s also a difficult goaltender to beat on clean shots because of his above-average tracking ability

The Kraken have now made selections in each position group; three forwards, one defenseman and one goaltender.

Saarinen is now the third Finnish goaltender the Kraken have selected in the previous two drafts.
