    Seattle - At the completion of this year's Development Camp, Seattle Kraken General Manager Jason Botterill announced that the club has signed forward Jake O'Brien to a three-year, entry-level contract with a $975,000 AAV. O'Brien was Seattle's first pick (eighth overall) in the 2025 NHL Draft from the Brantford Bulldogs of the Ontario Hockey League (OHL).

    "We're excited to get Jake signed to his first professional contract," said Botterill. "Jake has elite vision and hockey IQ, tremendous work ethic and a strong two-way game. He understands this is just the beginning. We're looking forward to his continued development."

    O’Brien is a 6’2”, 170 lb center who recently completed his second season in a Brantford Bulldogs sweater. This past year, he came 3rd in team scoring with 32 goals and 66 assists in 66 games. In his first season with the Bulldogs in 2023-24, he earned the Emms Family Award for OHL Rookie of the Year, along with selections to both the CHL All-Rookie Team and the OHL First All-Rookie Team. This past January, O'Brien was named captain of the Eastern Conference team for the Connor McDavid OHL Top Prospects Game. He earned MVP honors for Team East after notching 3 assists.

    The Toronto native has represented Team Canada on two occasions. In 2023, he played for Canada Red at the World Under-17 Hockey Challenge. The following year, he helped Canada’s U18 team capture gold at the 2024 Hlinka Gretzky Cup.

    O'Brien will next look to play in the rookie showcase against the Vancouver Canucks in Everett on September 13th.
